TAKING THE STRESS OUT OF HOLIDAY FAMILY PORTRAITS

TAKING THE STRESS OUT OF HOLIDAY FAMILY PORTRAITS

In prior years, we’ve had clients rush in to sessions stressed and exhausted, squeezing in that essential portrait session before the Holidays. Thinking… “What should they wear?”… “What if he doesn’t smile?”…”The shoes I ordered her haven’t arrived.” Some clients find the idea of holiday family portraits more stressful than fun.

Our Philosophy: Since the beginning of Je Revele, we have decided that the Fine Art of Family Portraiture was about documenting your family’s story over time and brought to life in a way that lasts forever.

As our clients begin to book their holiday family portraits this season, our goal is to demystify the process and redefine the portrait-taking experience in our new Castle Studio or neighboring park. We’ll show you how to avoid the lines and shop easily online at our favorite stores; how not to sweat the details; How to kick back, relax and enjoy some “down time” in our Castle studio or in a neighboring park. All the while, your children will be having a blast with us in their session.

We will help and guide you to ensure your sessions are memorable and enjoyable for you and for your children too.  First, we start with a phone pre-consultation to customize your session and help you prepare. Second, we start our holiday sessions on Columbus Day in October giving parents the chance to have their holiday cards mailed for Thanksgiving. We also book through early December and offer expedited turn-around.

Timelessness and authenticity is important to all that we do. We like to offer our clientele these 5 tips to create something truly spectacular and enjoyable:

  1. WARDROBE STYLE

Avoid trendy clothing and bold patterns that may go out of style in a few years. Instead, opt for classic or even historic-inspired looks that can help you create an image that will be as loved in 5 months as it will be in 20 years. Some of our favorite places to shop or draw inspiration for children’s wardrobe include:

holiday family portraits

  1. COLORS & PATTERNS
  • The viewer’s eye will be drawn to pops of color. The child wearing the boldest or lightest color (like white) will in most cases draw the most attention.
  • Red makes a hint at “holiday” but works all year long. Red always makes a gorgeous pop of color in photos. When the tresses are stark and the skies are grey in November, the child becomes the centerpiece of the image, as shown in this image below.
  • Patterns are nice, but we like to avoid pattern clashing (the plaids and florals). If more than one child is in the photo, avoid the patterns and opt for solids or subtle small patterns.
  • Contrast (like ivory skin next to a dark green velvet) looks equally gorgeous as monochrome (light skin and hair wearing a winter-ivory).

(This portrait of Niko and Pietro is one of my all time favorite holiday family portraits)

  1. DON’T SWEAT THE DETAILS!
  • I have a friend who simply WILL NOT book her holiday family portraits until she has the perfect socks and shoes. She waits until last minute and then rush-prints her cards. The truth is, the image rarely notices the socks and shoes (old, new or otherwise), and we don’t want it to. If your child were not the most important element of the image, it would be US doing something wrong.
  • My son’s tie was crooked and his shirttail hung out of his pants in last year’s holiday card. But I LOVED that. It was authentic…because his shirt is almost always hanging out.
  • We always get the call about the last minute bruise, scraped knee or facial blemish days before the shoot. It won’t matter. These elements can easily be removed in our post-production retouching process to complete your holiday family portraits.

  1. RULES NEED NOT APPLY
  • We ALL want well-behaved children. But sometimes, they DON’T, or they WON’T. That’s OK. Some of our best images are from sessions where the parents considered their children’s behavior challenging. What parents may see as incorrigible, we see as opportunities to capture expressions, energy and independence. The photo shoot is NOT the place to enforce discipline, but rather make it a fun experience where “anything goes”. We’ll let you know if we need your help reining them in, but that’s a rare occurrence! Because in reality, it’s a blast for the child and us when we work one-on-one.

  1. KICK BACK AND “FEEL” THE HOLIDAYS

For holiday family portraits at our Castle studio, we want you to feel the hospitality of an exquisite home. It’s a special place that allows you to take a breath, experience its history, and soak in the comfortable space we have created for clients. While we’re photographing your child, you’re free to relax on the couch with a glass of wine or a hot cocoa, enjoy our signature homemade Panini, read a long-neglected book or magazine, or listen to music. Our photo sessions should be as enjoyable for you as they are for your children. While we’re making art, you can focus on the art of being YOU (even if just for an hour).

We hope we’ll get to work with you and your family this holiday season! If you haven’t done so already, please call our studio to book your holiday family portrait sessions. Be sure to ask about our special holiday-season promotions. We’ll be looking forward to hearing from you!

NJ Family Photos with Ava

NJ Family Photos with Ava

My cousin had a beautiful girl 6 years ago.  She happens to be best friends with my oldest daughter.  I absolutely love seeing them together.  They spend hours  having fun, playing games, smiling and laughing. What more could a mother ask for.

Ava is such a sweet, thoughtful little girl.  She cares so much about everyone and everything. She’s so beautiful inside and out.

This Summer, I photographed Ava in the park with Gianvieve.  They had so much and didn’t want to leave. It was the very first time, I had to ask to stop taking pictures.   They kept saying ten more minutes, five more minutes.

I know. Shocking!

Here are some of my favorite portraits of this beautiful girl.  As always, I prefer fine art portraits. To me, it’s like living within a story.

NJ Family Photographers | 6th Birthday Photos

My oldest daughter Gianvieve (pronounced Jon-ve-ev) turned six in May.  Our family tradition, seems to take us away on vacation for everyone’s birthdays instead of having parties with friends and family.  I’m only just realizing that fun fact as a write.

I couldn’t wait to photograph her. She’s changed so much this past year and grew a few inches.  She’s the tallest in her class.  The end of the school year flew by (as did this Summer).  These are some of my favorite photos taken of my big girl.

Here are two of Gianvieve’s favorite photos with her cousin Ava, her best friend.nj family photographersnj family photographers

For my daughter’s first birthday we went on vacation and took loads of photos.  Last month, we returned and took our family photo in front of the same fountain and couldn’t believe how time had passed us by these 5 years.  I know you’re thinking five years is nothing, but with 3 children 5 and under it feels like a long time! hahaha

I am excited to share some more family photos with you which I took this summer of my cousin. Stay tuned.

What matters most is today | by Natalie Licini

April 19, 2014 /

We took the kids to the cemetery today to visit my father in law and his twin brother. We named our four year old daughter after my father in law. He passed away just over a year before she was born.  He was one of the best men i knew. He valued family over everything else in life. He would tell us time and time again that the only thing that mattered was family.  Its something i think about often.

And later that afternoon we went to the mall. The kids went on the carrousel which they love and took a photo with the Easter bunny.  Luc absolutely loved the Easter bunny.

I kept looking at our three kids.

All three.

Heavy heart.

Unwinding before bedtime we sat in the backyard with Luc on a sheet because he does not
like grass.  Poor thing, just does not like the feel.  I guess I don’t blame him.  Its so sweet watching our girls adjust his blanket so that he’s comfortable. They dote on him so much. I wonder how long this will last hehe.

Its amazing how different these kids are. My girls are total opposites.
And Luc has so much energy. He started walking at 10 months.

As a working mother im always thinking about building a better tomorrow for my kids. Not
realizing that it’s today that matters the most.

But i realize it now.

I think life is going to be very different for me now. So grateful for my little ones…

If These Walls Could Speak

What a wonderful delight it is to get to know our clients during a photo shoot. We spend such an intensely intimate amount of time together. We strive to become acquainted with each person’s desires, dreams, and fears. And at the end of each and every session, we always feel like we’ve made another good friend.

For precisely these reasons, we are over the MOON when a client returns to our new jersey photography studio for another session. Knowing the client was happy with our previous work, we are braced for the challenge of capturing additional elements of their life not seen in the last session. In some cases we get to bask in the glow of maternity radiance. Other times, the change is a tiny fragile infant embraced by love and soft blankets. Perhaps the family has tagged along for a portrait session? In this follow up visit, that’s precisely what happened.

The Chemo family embodies the charm of a Norman Rockwell painting. All four members being so good looking, it wasn’t difficult to pose them for a best angle. However, their two sons definitely stole the show with their adorable antics. Dressed so gorgeously in cerulean blue Pole sweaters, their smiles, glimmers of playfulness and love for each other took command of the lens. Through the eyes of these boys, we can see the deepest of bonds and truest of loves shared between their parents and for themselves.

To see them all together is exquisite.

Even the castle walls seemed to recognize their brilliance.

For me, it was a more personal recognition. I felt pride. To have the honor of seeing former clients and having them return to me for more. To know they believe in what we do and most importantly, to see the radiance we were able to capture and appreciate its value.

What an honor to photograph you! We look forward to seeing you again! Here’s a sneak peak inside their 2013 holiday card. This is a lovely trifolded design with the top design the outside and the lower design -the inside.

Here’s what Kim had to say about her experiences at the castle:

Being at the castle is always a pleasure. Natalie and her team are sweet and always make you feel at home. From the moment you walk in they always ready to give you a beverage of your choice and make you feel like a movie star!

My favorite features are the castle and architecture in the building gives such old world charm.

I hate taking pictures but the Je Revele team definitely makes you feel comfortable in your own skin. I have only done family and business portraits but hope to build up the courage to do boudoir portraits one day. I know Natalie and her team will make me feel like a princess.

There is always lasting memories when visiting the castle. My boys absolutely adore Natalie. My older boy loves taking pictures and Natalie actually let him take a picture with her own cameras and two years later he still talking about it. And my little one has such a crush on her.

There are so many things I love about my sessions from getting my hair and make up done and feeling like the most important person in the world for photo shoot.

And here are some of our favorite pictures captured at the castle…

…I couldn’t resist sharing their 2012 holiday card! I love to watch our families grow year after year!

We love the Chemo Family, especially Andrew and Jakey!!!
